Desire wearing one of her hats
purple feather in her face
can't see a damn thing
for more gin and thinking of you
against me again and again.

Always I'm the one who leaves
who knows the road taken
is just a short cut to the next gas station.

Before the tires turned down this tired
tried road (loves yellow line down the center
random roadkill I can't remember) I knew I had to go.

I may linger here but I won't waste time
Always moving on to the next exit sign
Not enough miles I left you behind.

Trying to get back to that sober state
Half mile off the interstate and three left turns
that place the guide books describe
I'm getting to the bottom of the glass
and find only my reflection, not what I had in mind.

I may linger here but I won't waste time
always moving to the next exit sign
Just enough miles to leave you behind
Always looking for what I never find.
Drunk my fill on gin and wine
drive too fast gotta make some time
Before the night takes over my mind
and the years stretch out like miles behind.
