in the night a low murmur
a plane taking off earthquake approaching
a dogs dog growl then
out and out comes the furious warning bark
I hear
someone is here
in the middle of the night
something's not right
deep sleep slackens then abates
the hound dream howl
transpires into the domestic bark
picked up by the neighbors
dogs across the street
and up the hill
we hear you
we bark too
something's not right
this night has trespassers
on the sleep of the humans
