My heart is breaking for you
Bit by bit-
Like a puzzle piece
Under the kitchen table
From a puzzle thrown away years ago
Because a piece went missing
That's a part of my cardiac muscle-
Quite useless.

Why have you written on me
Your name in indelible ink?
Like the scared wall
Of some busy night club.
Don't you know
That trying to clean it off
Just makes it more permanent?

It's quiet ugly you know
Walking down that nasty alley
Everything all barbed wire
And video surveillance,
I feel like a grainy photocopy
Of a girly magazine spread
From the seventies.

You're dumb, really ,
But you photograph well,
The kind of person that everyone likes
Until they meet them,
And then you ruin it for everyone.
Do you hate that black and white image so much?
What about the hole in your wall?

You are full of holes you are,
Jokes aside, how you can hold it together
Around those gaping craters
Is beyond what can be credited,
A skill no one wants
You do so well.

I am breaking for you still.
